About
Pet the Cat models real feline behavior with an attention to detail that will feel familiar to anyone who has ever tried to befriend a cat. Each kitty carries a distinct personality — some melt under head scratches, others demand a more delicate approach, and two rare personality types offer a delightful surprise for patient players.
The disembodied petting hand supports both keyboard and mouse input, with mouse lock toggleable in the pause menu. Unlike real cats, this pixelated companion cannot escape — though it will hiss if mistreated. The game runs at a smooth 60 fps with toggleable purring and hissing sounds.
Gameplay
Mechanics
- Petting: Stroke the cat in the right direction — head scratches reliably produce purrs, while petting against the grain is not recommended
- Cat Behavior: Realistic reactions including purring, hissing, and spicy behavior when annoyed
- Mouse Support: Optional mouse lock for more precise petting (can be toggled off)
- Personalities: Each cat has a unique personality, with two rare special types to discover
Tips
- Like real cats, head scratches are the most reliable way to get a nice purr going
- Petting against the grain will annoy the cat
- If the cat hisses, you're doing something wrong — try a different approach
- The cat cannot scratch or bite you, but it will express displeasure
