Sonic Mini
Sonic Mini is a TIC-80 demake of Sonic the Hedgehog, bringing the iconic blue blur's momentum-based platforming to the fantasy console with faithful physics, Spindash, Super Peel-out, and a full Green Hill Zone act to speed through.

About
Sonic the Hedgehog defined 16-bit platforming with its revolutionary momentum physics — rolling down slopes to build speed, launching off ramps, and chaining together fluid movement that rewards skill over memorization. This demake distills that core experience into a single Green Hill Zone act on TIC-80, proving that the fantasy console can handle real Sonic-style physics within its constraints.
The project was built as a study in Sonic physics implementation, and it shows in the attention to detail. Slope handling, acceleration curves, and character states all follow the original game's behavior closely. The Spindash and Super Peel-out mechanics — originally introduced in later titles — have been adapted here to give players more options for building speed quickly. A personal best time tracker on the title screen keeps the competitive drive alive run after run.
Gameplay
- Momentum Physics: Speed carries between actions — roll into a downhill slope to accelerate, launch off ramps at full velocity, and maintain momentum through careful input timing
- Spindash: Crouch and charge while stationary to unleash a burst of rolling speed, perfect for breaking through sections or recovering from a stop
- Super Peel-out: Hold up and charge while standing to rev into a high-speed running start without curling into a ball, giving you immediate control upon release
- Slope Dynamics: The terrain features authentic sloped surfaces that naturally accelerate or decelerate Sonic based on angle and current velocity — mastering them is key to fast times
