About
Super Meat Boy launched in 2010 as a love letter to punishingly difficult platformers, and this TIC-80 demake by Never captures that same relentless spirit within the fantasy console's 64KB cartridge limit. What makes this version stand out is its fidelity to the original — from the tight input response to the full dual-world campaign, it reads like a careful study of what makes the source game tick.
The demake covers the entire first chapter, The Forest, with both Light World and Dark World variants. A built-in volume setting lets players tune the audio, and both gamepad and keyboard layouts are supported out of the box. The development effort stretched well beyond a weekend project, and the result shows in the polish.
Gameplay
- Ghost Replay System: Every attempt is recorded and replays simultaneously after you clear a level — a chaotic parade of your own failures
- Wall Sliding & Jumping: Cling to vertical surfaces and kick off them to chain together fluid aerial maneuvers
- Grade Rankings: Each level awards a grade from C to A+ based on completion time, encouraging speedrun-level optimization
- Light & Dark Worlds: Complete the Light World to unlock the Dark World — alternate layouts of every stage with tighter margins and deadlier obstacle placement
